FOR SALE: Electric JAZZ on Victor- Various- Check these!

Post by gramophone-georg »

I'm offering some more nice duplicates from my collection. Some real gems here in my opinion!

1. 19675- Jack Shilkret Orch., "If You Knew Susie" (Billy Murray voc) / "Tell Me Yes, Tell Me No". Very early electric Batwing from May 1925! Two great sides- visual E, plays about E+ $15 SOLD!

2. 20910, Ted Weems Orch., "Highways Are Happy Ways" / "It Was Only A Sun Shower". Great bouncy, uptempo Weems, as one would expect. Visual E-, plays about E+ $15

3. 21080, "Baby Your Mother", Don Bestor Orch. w/ Franklyn Baur. Way hotter than the title suggests. / "Nothin'" Nat Shilkret Orch. with Gene Austin. Hot one too! Visual E- A, V+ B but only due to water spotting B not affecting play. Plays at a solid E+. $15 SOLD!

4. 21346, Louisiana Sugar Babes, "Persian Rug" / "Thou Swell". Visual E+, plays like new- flawless! Fats Waller, Jabbo Smith, James P Johnson, Gavin Bushell jam in 1928! What more do you want? $50 PENDING

5. 21348, Louisiana Sugar Babes, "Willow Tree" / "'Sippi". Same group as #4, and also in E+ condition that plays like new! $50 PENDING

6. 21559, Jack Pettis Orch., "Doin' The New Low Down" / "Spanish Dream". Visual V++, plays E! Fantastic A including Bill Moore, Al Goering, Don Murray, Eddie Lang. $30

7. 21859, Nat Shilkret Orch., "You Wouldn't Fool Me, Would You?" (w/ Johnny Marvin) / "I Want To Be Bad" (w/ Belle Mann!). Visual V+ to E-, but "rattly" groove wear A- plays about V with a 2.5 stylus, probably V- with 3.0. Plays E- or better B, which is good because a Belle Mann vocal is always a treat! One of the tougher Shilkrets. $8

8. 22041, High Hatters, "Low Down Rhythm" / "Gotta Feelin' For You". Great bouncy arrangements as you'd expect from this band! Visual V+ due to scuffing. Plays E- to E. Sticker A and slight label damage B. $10

9. 22830, LOFNER- HARRIS St. Francis Hotel Orch., "I Got The Ritz From The One I Love" (Harris vocal) / "I'm Sorry Dear". Phil Harris' first record from 1931! Visual E-, plays E but with a light "swish" for about the first 30 sec. I'm not sure these early Lofner- Harris records were sold anywhere but on the West Coast. Rare! $45

10. 22831, LOFNER- HARRIS, companion to #9 above. "Was It Wrong?" / "River, Stay Way From My Door" (PH vocal). These were the only sides (along with 9 above) that the Lofner- Harris outfit ever recorded. Unusual Muzzy Marcellino vocal A- he was a FioRito regular later. Visual V+ (due to scuffs), plays E or better, label sticker A. West Coast pressing. $45

11. 22873, Paul Whiteman Orch. "There's A Blue Note In My Love Song" / HIGH HATTERS "One Little Quarrel". A is sort of schmaltzy but B is a nice and rare LATE High Hatters' number- a bit subdued compared to their usual earlier fare (it was the Depression, after all!) but very listenable and enjoyable nonetheless. Visual E that plays E+ or better $25

12. Bluebird B-6395, Ted Weems Orch., "The One Man Band" / "My Favorite Band". 1935 repressing of the original 1930 Victor sides. Visual E, plays E+ or better, $10.
