EBay has generated higher perceived "values" as to what a record is "worth", and what one should be sold for. It also impacts venues such as Discogs, and overall, drives prices upward. Am I the only one here that sees this? Ebay has impacted the market, and the global economy.

As for prices in my opinion the REAL answer for prices is whatever you can get for them.edisonplayer

Within a couple of exchanges, I can usually tell if someone is being realistic, or thinking they are sitting on The Lost Ark of the Covenant.

Giving more people easy assess to a commodity never "harms" the value of said commodity. Supply and demand curves ring true for records too. If you try to sell a common Billy Murray record for $100 on eBay it will just sit there (probably) and not jack up the perceived value.

If you think prices on 78's have gone down in the era of eBay, and not up, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I'd love to sell to you.

I still find deals all of the time where people are selling 78s (in person) for 50 cents or $1 each. That is not possible on eBay for obvious reasons. The higher prices on "rare" 78s are to be expected, but at least we can find titles we want instead of hunting for them for years.

The thrill of the hunt is not an experience that can be enjoyed on eBay.

It's also made more of these records available that are well preserved from private collections that collectors like me would otherwise never see. However, if price is the only concern, you could be right.
