FOR SALE: Edison 52000 Series Diamond Discs - Various

Post by FellowCollector »

SOLD:
52108 Barbara/You'll do it someday.
52203 Lovely Little Silouette/There's Somebody
52148 Dream Kisses/I'm Telling the World
52383 Ten Little Miles/Anything you Say
52156 Did You Mean it/So Tired
52437 Rainbow Round

Sale Pending:
52343
52128

Prices { and occasional comments } in pictures. I have pictured BOTH sides of each record with "Side 2" to differentiate in the pics.

Most of these are in Excellent or better condition. I've been very picky about the Edison Diamond Discs I purchased for my collection over the years. All play nicely with exception of "That's My Weakness Now" (Wonderful tune by the way) which has one skipped groove near the end on my modern turntable. Some REALLY GOOD toe-tappin' hot stuff here in some of these records! PM, PayPal Friends or Check, USPS extra at cost.

Thanks,
Doug

Gary, I don't have 52453 available for sale in this group. Please let me know the correct number or title. You may also contact me by email which is also available here on the Forum if a PM is not working for you.
Thanks,
Doug

I've had a lot of luck fixing skips in my vinyl records with a fresh Exacto knife and a very powerful magnifying glass. I picked up a junk copy of Bing Crosby's second Christmas album just to have the cover to display around my phonograph stuff for the holidays. The record was pretty much junk. I played it using a cheap cartridge for the fun of it and on a rainy day decided to sit down and tackle the 7 skips and 1 stick on the A side. Usually my percentage is 85% success rate but this time I fixed them all with only a slightly audible tick on half of them. You just carefully slide the tip of the knife backwards through the mark in the groove in order to re-carve the sides. I never come at it from the front of the skip as the knife has a tendency to follow the mar which only reinforces the skip. It looks ugly under a microscope but you can really see when the groove has been repaired and you can't even see it with the naked eye. Never tried it on an Edison disc but if it already skips then what's the worst that can happen?

Interesting comments. I have a good friend who repairs hung grooves and skipped grooves (where the stylus jumps into the next groove instead of playing the current one) in a very similar manner as yours. He uses a sewing needle of the right size and works carefully at the affected groove until it appears good again. He's mostly repaired shellac 78's for me but I presume he would be able to repair DD's also. I can see where high magnification would be very beneficial to this type of work. My friend just wears his regular eye glasses which amazes me. Some grooves are irreparable though. I brought him an early Eldridge Johnson Monarch record once that had a hung groove that was played many times and he could not repair it to play normally again. Oh well. Thanks for the comments.
