SOLD- Original "Grand Canyon Ste." on 1932 Victrolac LPs!

Post by gramophone-georg »

Here's an opportunity to own something relatively scarce- the original 1932 recording of Ferde Grofe's "Grand Canyon Suite" on VICTROLAC RCA Victor "Program Transcription" discs from 1932! In case you are unaware, "Victrolac" was Victor's precursor to vinyl, and "Program Transcriptions" were the first true commercially available 33 ⅓ RPM LPs. While the majority of 10" Program Transcriptions were pressed on shellac, the 12" versions can be found pressed of Victrolac. While a nice format, this venture into longer playing records failed miserably due to the extraordinary cost of the two speed machines required to play these as well as the records themselves, coupled with their introduction right in the worst years of the Depression.

What's nice about this set is that the playing surfaces are absolutely pristine- most of these are quite worn because the Victrolac mixture absolutely got destroyed in short order by the heavy magnetic pick- ups of the day, even when using Victor's prescribed chromium orange needles. They play great on a modern turntable with a standard 78 RPM stylus.

Despite the notations and label stickers and a few almost imperceptible sleeve scuffs, this set appears quite possibly to have never been played on original equipment, and very sparingly on later machines.

I'm asking $150 shipped in USA for this set.
As always, satisfaction is guaranteed, and PayPal "Friends and Family" or your good check is accepted.
