I have been granted the privilege to act as liaison for the family of a 90-year-old lifetime record collector in Roanoke, VA who is ready to part with his 78 rpm collection.
Thus far, a small handful of collectors have gone through the records and have purchased a few. My belief is that there is very little, if anything, exceptionally valuable there, but there very well might be. As far as I can estimate, there are 5,000+ records. I have gone through most of it and this is what I saw:
Jazz, 1917-1940s
Dance bands, 1920s-1940s (many Depression-era here)
Popular vocalists, early 1900s-1940s
Personalities, vaudevillians, spoken word, etc.
Instrumentalists, early 1900s-1940s
Country/Hillbilly, 1920s-1940s
Classical, many Victor Red Seal (Grand Prize & Patent) up to 1940s
PRICE: $1200 firm. All price negotiation has been done. All must go as a lot, no picking and choosing.
