Edison Standard Model A with No Shaver

I have read that some Edison Standard Model A machines may have been shipped with no shaver, and no holes drilled for one, but I have never seen such a machine until now. Here is my new Edison Standard Model A ICS machine with no shaver. The carriage appears to be the early kind that has a space for a shaver, but no holes were drilled. I wonder is this may be unique to ICS machines. Has anyone else seen this? SN# S235988.

That is a nice Edison Standard ICS phonograph. The reproducer arm is unique to the ICS machine as they did not need a shaver supposedly for the language cylinders so they did not drill out the shaver mounting holes. I think it was used only on the Model A . Those ICS phonographs are a little rarer than the other models . That serial number is a high one for the standards and I do not know if it would be a model A or model B. George can you help out ??? Either way it will clean up well and with some grease and oil be a good one. Thanks for showing the phonograph. Tom

Wow what a awesome machine and it will clean up very nicely.....as a phonograph parts dealer that carriage arm is a tough one to replace and is absolutely correct for that machine.....the machine is a model a and the late serial number is normal for the ics series...be excited about that machine as it is a special one as i collect ics machines ))

Here are some more photos. There is a board nailed inside the cabinet, beneath the spring barrel. I've never seen this either. I was told that this would have been put in originally to secure the machine during shipping.

Indeed: my ICS Model B (SN 281796) is from early 1906. The OP fits right in with the late Model A numbers.

Mine is ICS Model A #48207 and is identical without holes drilled for a shaver. I purchased it from a friend in 2012 for $500. That may seem like a lot but the condition is without flaw plus it came with the 14" horn, recorder, speaking tube and some ICS Spanish cylinders. When I look at this machine I think this is what a machine looked like fresh from the factory packing crate. My friend said it was all in an apple box labeled "Mabel's Edison." Thanks Mabel.
