That looks great! I was wondering who would pick that cabinet up. Good job.

I am now two steps closer to finishing this project, so I thought I would update the thread.

First I'd like to thank Mr. Duffy for selling me two handles, the just came in the mail. Attached is a photo of the cabinet with the handles screwed on.

Secondly, I found a good solution for making the new top. I have been looking around marketplace for awhile trying to find an old piece of furniture to use for a top. I just bought this coffee table (they used a library table top for it) and will be able to make a new top from it. I'll bring it to my woodworking friend who will help me cut it and route the edge to match the old top. I know that this will not be a "correct" top, but I think it will turn out quite nicely. I will be getting the table towards the end of July. I am hoping I can have the top made and potentially glue the cabinet back together before the summer is over.

Cheers,

David

That's a great solution for a new top. :coffee:
I'd do the same thing!

Thanks guys! I am excited to be moving forward with this again. It's definitely turned into more of a project than I had originally thought.

The next 'phase' will be getting the top made, the cabinet glued together, and the rest of the wood stained, grain filled, and refinished. Then I think I will just enjoy looking at it until I have the time to make all the shelves, cardboard pegs, opening mechanism, and the shelf supports. :?

That oak piece you found for the top is perfect... It's old and quarter sawn - much better than using veneer. It's a great looking project. ;)

I’m excited to make the new top out of it, it’s ¾” solid oak. I can even use the scraps for the other woodworking. I’m hoping I might have just enough to make the new feet.

Can someone who has a full barrel post the measurements/ some pictures for the feet? I should have more than enough wood to turn the feet from the rest of the table.

I am getting the table on Friday morning.

Thanks,
David
