My young cousin, newly married and a gifted, inspiring preacher, wants an outside horn working disc machine. Obviously, he’s on a limited budget but I’d really like to help him out. His budget is about $500.00. I know, I know. That’s not a lot for what he wants but he wants it to use, not as a display piece. I told him it may not happen within his price range, but I’d try. I promised him I’d give him some records if he got a machine. He blames me for catching the bug! He loves the old music.
He lives in Windsor, Ontario.
Any help or leads you can send my way would be deeply appreciated.
Thanks
Looking for an exterior horn disc machine for my preacher cousin.

buy him an inside horn VV-VI phonograph which is easy to transport and display. They are great machines that play great. You will eventually find a reasonable outside horn machine . Steve

I know it's not what you are hoping for, but Steve's advice is really good. The Victrola VI is a high quality machine with repair parts commonly available. You could buy a really nice example for about half your budget.

There is a pretty decent horn model Columbia for sale on Facebook Market place New Brunswick ( Canada). They are only asking $500 Canadian, which is a great deal. The search word is Gramophone.

OMG !
There's another one there, the seller is asking over 9500.00$ !!!
That seems to be a good buy for that Columbia machine, getting the seller to box it up and ship it is another thing.
There's also a Crapophone for 1200.00$

Is he planning to use the machine in his preaching?

I was about to ask the same thing; it seems he and the machine might be competing with each other with the volume an external horn machine can generate. (Or is he planning on playing Homer Rodeheaver records to warm up the audience/congregation?)

A Standard A might fit into that price range; and you often find them with modified spindles for regular discs...

He'll be back, it's Mr. Bufalini.
I second the idea of the Standard A. The JAS Antiques turntable will swap in to the original & let it play conventional 78s. Also, Columbia BN's are nice--
Honestly though, for more fun, I'd suggest internal-horn phonographs & using the extra money for records.
