So, the transitional (plain case) D I'm selling on ebay measures 15 ¾ at the base. (for anyone unfamiliar, later Vs were larger in cabinet size.)
I'm wondering if it's because of this that the "center spindle test" looks like this for me.
Do I need to recheck my other taper arms and brackets to find one that aligns it perfectly? Or are all gonna be off because the case is smallish?

It would be interested to check with a Victor III size back bracket (also M, MS, & IV) but I suspect you've got the correct bracket.

It's the dimension of the box and not the base that's important. That said, I think your bracket & tonearm are correct.

Re: Another Victor D V transition question re brackets
Now, sorry if this is a question well known or previously answered on here but...
The odd thing is that the Victor data book mentions crossover of the cabinets and D designation. I was schooled by an ebayer that it's the bevel motor that makes it a D, regardless of the cabinet.
The data book has dimensions of machine bases (I think, which is why I referenced the base size and not the sides)... But all of them are 16 ⅜ for the V's.
I realize that dimensions are not always filled in in the data book, so probably represent a more fungible element of machine era identification, but I'd be curious to know how many plain cabinet bevel machines measure 15 ¾ at the base like mine.

My plain case Vic. "D" Serial #12238 has a 15 ¾" base & the tone arm hits the spindle the same way. Your Serial # is just 690 later than mine . My machine came out of the attic of the family that bought it new. They bought it with the Model "L" horn! (24"X36").
I have had no problems with this big horn being to heavy and tilting forward like they were talking about on an earlier posting.......

Maybe bits of our machines were together on the shelf before they were made... Separated at birth.Hit of the Week wrote: ↑Mon Sep 18, 2023 6:48 pm My plain case Vic. Re: Another Victor D V transition question re brackets
Is there an estimate of how many transitional D's were made??
My transition "D" needle hit dead center. Case measures 15 ¾ inches at the base. Early serial # 9207. Slotted crank.

Any chance we can see a side view of the setup with needle in place on the spindle so I can compare brackets and tonearms?
