Calling all XVII owners: Finally finished the $100 Oak XVII

Post by Ben the phono man »

Excited to share that I finally finished my $100 Victrola XVII in Weathered Oak. This particular machine has original owner provenance AND the original house provenance! It turned out to be the Gem of my collection after some new life, I've never seen another dark oak XVII and I've been told Oak XVIIs are not common as well. I'd love to see pictures of everyones XVII's Oak or not!!

That is beautiful! I've always loved the darker oak finishes. Great job on it, Ben!

Great looking XVII Especially in oak. I've only seen them in mahogany.

That’s a gorgeous machine. Mine is a later, Oak VV-130, (pretty much an XVII).

Django,

Absolutely beautiful! Now I'm after a light oak XVII or 130, the knobs and the little discard needle drawer are the tellers for the 130! I also have a 130 in mahogany with the electric motor, one of 560 produced.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments!

Well, now I officially dislike my mahogany vv-xvii. I think I've developed a real love for the quartersawn oak figurals over the years, after I acquired the mahogany one.

Oak or Mahogany, I think that they are both beautiful.

Beautiful in Weathered Oak. I did not realize that there were so many oak finishes. I always assumed it was just "oak".

My XVII is what I would call Golden Oak. I don't know what the official name would be. Mine is unrestored. I run a No. 2 reproducer most of the time, but I also have the original gold Exhibition. This was my first phonograph. My Dad bought it when I was a kid (I don't remember really what year it was) and he later gave it to me.
