Picture of a Phonograph Store

Post by audiophile102 »

I was wondering if this is a well known image or something special? I scanned it into my computer today and sharpened it for printing. I reduced the size of a copy for posting here.

Thanks for posting the picture. I really like the rack on the wall holding cylinders. I just may try making one like it.

I may not be the only one that would like to see the hi-res picture, good for seeing finer details or printing.

That appears to be a model C Standard so it's got to be about 1908. Are those Amberol boxes on the top shelf or the later two minute boxes? Great photo. You know how much I like paper memorabilia. :D The display case is full of cigars! Thomas Edison would approve. :D

Certainly a few Wax Amberols, so probably about 1908.

Maybe the perspective is skewed, but those cylinder boxes on the wall appear to be larger than 2 / 4 minute boxes ?

(Maybe my glasses needs a valve-job... :monkey: )

If they were standard size cylinders, I would think they would appear to be smaller than the ones on the cylinder cabinet in the foreground because of perspective... they look larger to me, also.

This image has been around for some time. Several years ago, 8 x 10 glossies were being sold at Union. I may have one somewhere.

I am wondering if those are "Concert" size cylinders on the wall ?

"Concerts" would be much larger than that. They look like Amberol boxes to me.
