Thomas Edison Depot Museum On C-Span

Post by Dave D »

Alright, I almost was too shy to post this. Please understand how nervous I was knowing that this was going to be on TV. I misspoke a few times... In other words, if you can't say something nice, please don't say anything at all. ha ha

I retired from full time teaching and was able to land this fun job. Believe it or not, on the days I don't work, I actually miss being there. I grew up a few blocks from the Depot and always thought it was fascinating that Edison lived and worked only a few blocks from my house. The Depot somehow managed to survive the Urban Renewal craze in the 1960's, probably because Peerless Cement operated on the site and used the building as office space. It was always filthy when I was a kid, being totally covered in cement dust, like all the other structures around there.

Awesome!!! Thanks for sharing. The displays are wonderful and your presentation was very informative. I learned some more interesting things about Edison's early years and jobs. I hope to someday make the pilgrimage to see this.

Great job, Dave! Very well done.

The displays are very professionally staged. Looks like a first class museum.

Hi Dave-- Outstanding video-- What a great tribute to TAE--- and a fun place to work. I, too, am a retired teacher and would love the opportunity to do what you're doing--- But--I live in the Wash., D.C. area-- Since the American (Columbia) Graphophone Co. moved out, I don't think anything really important has ever happened here. :)

Enjoyed your presentation- Great stuff!

Thank you for posting this. I have worked for museums and collectors for over 40 years and find that both are often to shy about "tooting their horn" about what they do and how important it is to collect, preserve, and yes promote the cause of history. Hundreds of millions of dollars are spent each year on sports and museums always come up short in funding to present and preserve their collections. Somehow we need to figure out a way to make history as attractive as guys crashing into each other in pursuit of a ball.

Thanks for taking the time to do this.
