Welcome to the new board!

Post by MordEth »

Everyone—my apologies on having to move, but welcome to our new home. I do not know exactly what John has in mind, but I think that it will be better and easier if we stay here and restore the content from the old board to this site.

Since I host this board, we are guaranteed that it will go nowhere; John owns talkingmachine.info (our domain), and I am hosting, so we are a lot more secure here from the threats of a certain person who is bent on destroying the online phonograph community if he does not control it. Despite all allegations of hacking (that some people are willing to believe despite all evidence to the contrary), I did not hack the OTVMMB; it was shut down due to Dan’s flagrant violations of the ProBoards Terms of Service. He in turn retaliated by issuing many complaints about our board, and so here we are...

John is dealing with ProBoards; I just wanted to quickly get this up so that you will not be in phonograph-discussion withdrawal. Please contact him with any questions in regard to this issue.

We have a ton of great members, and we are very dedicated to providing you a friendly and feature-filled place to discuss phonographs.

One nice thing about this board system is that it allows the attachment of images and files, so you do not need other sites to host your content to post here. I will be posting tutorials for getting the most out of it, but everything here works more or less similarly to ProBoards, with the exception of being able to post ANY Flash (and not just YouTube), and the lack of advertising.

I do not know how soon I will be able to recreate our theme, but I will do that as soon as possible.

Remember, this is your board—if you have any suggestions, please share them with John and me; we will do our best to apply your input to make this a better site for everyone.

For any technical issues (e.g. improvements to the board), please contact me, as I will be handling all of the technical details.

Note that hex color codes here (like my E in #AA0000) require the leading #, whereas it would not work with it on ProBoards.

Your friendly internet daemon,

MordEth

do you think all or most, if any, of the content from the other (as in your other) board can be resurrected and reposted here? that would truly be a bummer if all of that was lost, even though it was just a few weeks' worth of content - was still pretty good.

Glad to be hear and once again thank you so much for your priceless support to the community. I had (and still having) a very busy week, therefore did not take notice of anything that happened to this. So, I am even more happier that it made the transition for me easier that way.
I am looking forward to have the other members coming over here too and keep the machines cranking!

ps.: I decided to make my pseudo shorter as everybody should be able to recognize me by my avatar. ;)

Now I've found you (as well as my avatar) as well! :P

I was very pizzled yesterday when, after a few days of absence, I tried to log into John's forum as well as the OTVVMB and didn't get anywhere but to Proboard's homepage: I guess I must really have missed a lot of commosion when I was away?

Hello

It is great to be back again but I am bit concerned by these past events.

What has happened here is a bit like setting alight a library full of valuable information that can never be replaced.

In my opion that is a really bad thing for the historic future of the talking machine.

Perhaps there is a way to retrieve the info from both previous boards and make it available somewhere?

Regards
Bernt

Glad to see the world of Phonograph forum is now in safe hands. This is the move that was really needed anyway. Now that it is done, it is done. Dictorial control is now in John's hands. :o

We’re off to a very good start, I think—103 members, and 1001 posts in our first week (or perhaps a few hours past that; I forget exactly at what time on the 7th that I had this place up and running—being on PST instead of EST last week threw off my sense of time).

Congratulations to Greg Bogantz for getting the 1,000th post.

I still have quite a bit of work that I want to do on the look and feel of our new home, but we’re mostly there (I just have a lot of images to replace, and some other minor tweaks)—the biggest thing (for me) was getting us back to John’s color scheme. Expect more features and other improvements as I have the time to make them.

I hope that everyone continues to enjoy the time that they spend on this board for years to come.

Certainly John and I are dedicated to providing you with the best phonograph board possible.

Folks,

My goodness you are an amazing lot! Congratulations to you all. I've been waylaid by a minor illness for a few days and you've all managed to rocket along beautifully! You all deserve a pat on the back to go along with my admiration! Thank you all!

Regards,
John
