Purchase help for a Victor Mahogany speartip horn

Post by poppop »

Any advice as to approx going price would be for a Victor Mahogany speartip horn? ( for a Vic player )

realizing condition is important, an ad was listed with only minor interior damage......it is supposed to be limited to 9 missing spear inlays and minor lifting of wood ( needing re-gluing ) in some areas of the inside.
Exterior photos look very good.

Any help or price range would be appreciated.

Thanks Ed

even with the damage? wooden horn repairs aren't that easy, and getting someone to do it right can be costly.

to the originator of this thread... if you've got photos, that would help. it's hard to tell from your description how bad the damage is, but it doesn't sound too good.

Brian, I was just kidding around. I saw the same ad for this horn and that is the price the person is asking for it. I really wouldn't know the value well enough to make a suggestion.

hey,

can't tell all the time... if you've seen the ad though, would it be possible to copy and post the photo (if you'd rather not post the ad itself)? I'm curious to see the type of damage that the guy above mentioned.

Brian,

Here is the link to the ad. It may not be the same one the original post was about. But the description is the same so I am assuming it is.

Ummm...Nine missing spear inlays does not sound like "minor damage" to me, it sounds like quite a little restoration job. If it was me, I'd pass at this price. Just my opinion.

Let us know how you do (with more pics if possible). I'm sure Don Gfell could get that horn looking great for you if you need help.
