fixing bent horn panels on morning glory horns

Does anyone have experience with this? If say, a victor or Edison panel horn has some average bends and dents, do you need heat to work them out with a hammer? Is it possible to use a rubber mallet instead? I am not sure if horns have a "springy" quality to them or if they can be bent back. Thanks!
