Mahagony "De Luxe" Gramophone Grand on ebay UK

Post by Starkton »

Collectors, take care. A nice c. 1908 Gramophone Grand (Sheraton Style) is now offered on ebay UK. One of the "de luxe" models by HMV. It is still very cheap. Local pick up only, but if the price is right the seller will cooperate for sure.

Update: Seller ships world wide.

And a super rarity. That's the HMV take on the VTLA: it was their first internal horn machine , I believe. It should have an Exhibition soundbox. I have always wanted to see one of these in colour pictures. The only time I've seen the machine before is in the ads in the Illustrated London News. I have a few issues with these ads and damned if I can lay my hands on them at the moment!

The seller, obviously, doesn't have a clue:

"alternatively with little work it could be altered to house a modern sound system or simply used as a cabinet"

Other than the missing turntable, and storage compartment dividers, the only other component to hunt down would be an Exhibition sound box, but it probably would sound very nice with the #4 that's on the tonearm now.

I hope it doesn't sell to a bored housewife who needs a blanket cabinet :o .

I'm sorry but I think it's kind of ugly... only my opinion though!

It seems like such a HUGE cabinet for such a small speaker horn opening.

You wanna see ugly, then you should see the even rarer Chippendale model
Or a Victor L-door :)
