Bagged a portable on Ebay...

Post by antique1973 »

This one is an obscure German model but looks like a fun project. I figured for
$36 delivered, its hard to go wrong! :D

Hey! I didn't know Odeon (or, as the seller states, "Oseon") made phonographs! The color is great, and I love the flip-out needle holder. Definitely a bargain!

The owner seemed to not know much about it. He thought something was missing but couldn't say
for sure what it was. From the picture it looks like all the important parts are there, including
the crank handle. I think they used to use the tradename Electrola. Odeon made records but I can't find
much on the phonographs yet. Hopefully I can salvage the existing spring, otherwise a replacement may be
tough to find.

Excellent score. It's basically the same as an HMV 101, so it will sound great.
Id be very interested in seeing a picture of the motor when you get it. Electrola made a 101 copy, but used a dual motor that was wind-up & electric. I'm sure I've seen them in the same colour too, so I'm guessing this is a rebadged Electrola with a spring motor.
Reading the description, Im also guessing the missing parts will be on the auto-brake. That shouldn't be too hard to repair though. Hopefully a couple fibre washers & you'll be in business.

Nice haul, especially for that price! Odeon was very active in the German market with phonographs.

Here's another portable: http://cgi.ebay.de/ALTES-ORIGINAL-ODEON ... 0373318090

Man, its too bad mine is missing that metal grille with the Odeon logo. That looks
really cool. Maybe I can scrounge one up some day.

Your portable appears to be earlier than the other one. I wouldn't really expect that yours was originally equipped with such a grill.

Ok, I don't feel so bad now that it is not meant to be there. :D
