Can anyone identify this reproducer? Douglus No. 20

Post by Jeb98 »

Anyone know who made this? Obviously it says Douglus but I couldn’t find anything about this. The diaphragm looks similar to the Orthophonic 5A, but without the spider. Any ideas??

Looks British. Maybe you should post in that section also.

This must sound very good. It lacks refinements of the orthophonics, as the spider, and the phase-plug at the outlet, but the Columbia Viva Tonal no15 didn't have them either, and sounded very good.

It looks like it has the phase plug at the outlet like the Orthophonic, no? It does look quite well made with the knurling on the side. I'll try and get it up and running and see how it sounds.

Thanks!

I think the Douglus Corp was American maybe with a Japanese connection. Here's a stylish looking Art Deco model. The reproducer looks similar.

The reproducer certainly looks similar to a Columbia. Perhaps there's a connection otherwise the use of the word 'Grafonola' is a bit cheeky.

Wow, that certainly looks to be the same one. Now I wish I had the table that it came with. Thanks for finding that, I couldn't find any information about the Douglus company anywhere.

The machine is for sale on eBay when the link is working...

The price seems a bit steep although the shipping seems very little. The motor board looks replaced? I doubt nails would have been used to fix the speed control.

Thanks! The price seems steep but it's a really cool unique machine! The description, on the other hand, sort of quenched the flame.
