The fireside is complete! The last thing that needs to be done is the reproducer, this one is going to go out to Wyatt. I will be going to the NC swap meet tommorow and I will be bringing it, although I wont be selling it

Really great job Martin! It was fun to watch the progress on this machine.

Excellent restoration, Martin-- these kind of repair jobs, like your presence on the Forum, do put a smile on a lot of faces. That Fireside looks like it could have been built yesterday, and I mean that in a good way.

Wyatt does a nice job on reproducers. I think when I've a bit more money I am sending him all of my K reproducer; I have not been able to get the thing assembled properly & am beginning to wonder if mine was modified in the past.

Sure and that's a fine phonograph you have there. You will be enjoying this one for years and years to come.

I too would like to know the sheen of the black paint that you used - gloss, semi-gloss, satin or flat. Also, did you use an enamel or a lacquer? Finally, how did you polish the final finish? Thx.

I first use a filler primer, and spot fill any pitting. I then wet sand the primer and apply rustoleum High performance black enamel. The enamel is wet sanded and polished with Maguire's scratch X polish, and the Gregg cline decals are applied. I then spray shellac over the decals and also apply by hand with a pad. The spray shellac leaves an orange peel texture, but it can be wet sanded smooth and either French polished or polished with Maguire's.

Wow very nice job. I can do mechanical restores, but I'm always leary to work on finishes. I wouldn't even think that possible from the original. Thank you for sharing.
