Victor Exhibition insert, Why?

Post by Canuk Phonographs »

I found this "Peace Ring" insert between the back rubber flange and the body of the Victor Exhibition reproducer. What is it for? It was on a Victrola XI that I am restoring.
Thanks in advance.

Reminds of the phase plug ring in the later orthophonics, but without the bullet. I've seen similar triangles at the back of Thorens Maestrophonic no 17 soundboxes, but these have only the three-arm inner part, without the external ring.

Orthophonic reproducers that don't have the phase plug usually have one of those. Keeps little fingers out of delicate spots. I guess somebody thought they'd add one to an Exhibition.

Or, the B.S. response: Splits the sound into 3 for triophonic effect. Wow man!
