Information on Victor J2-20 Portable

Post by Pete Stratford »

There is a portable for sale close to me for $110. Comes with one orange Victor needle tin.
Is this a decent model ?

According to information in the following thread, it's an export model probably made in Japan in the 1930s. I don't know how well it performs, as I have never seen one. A lot depends on the condition of soundbox, horn and motor. It might be OK, on a par with RCA's outsourced suitcase portables. Probably not as good as the Victor-made Orthophonic machines like the 2-55.

Is that the same era as the 2-55 and 2-65, or is it later? I notice it's branded RCA-Victor.
