I just aquired a new case Edison Standard Model A, serial# 50620..with the serial stamped both in the straight edge as well as on the data plate. Would this machine have been produced around 1901?
It has a banner decal, earlier style reproducer carriage with two clips and the lever lift. It also has a later Model C reproducer. I'll try to get some photos over the weekend.
Thanks

According to Edison sales data, Standard #50620 left the factory in March 1902. In all likelihood it was originally equipped with a Model C Reproducer.

Thank you for the info George. That's exactly what I was hoping to find out. For a change I think I've picked up a relatively unmolested machinephonogfp wrote:According to Edison sales data, Standard #50620 left the factory in March 1902. You're very welcome.
Congratulations on acquiring an unmolested machine. Dealing with dried oil, light corrosion, dull paint, or a dried-out finish is a pleasure compared to dealing with stripped screws (including damaged heads from an improper screwdriver), scratched plating and brass (sandpaper/coarse steel wool), poor repaint jobs, and/or polyurethane. Time is usually kinder to antique phonographs than inexperienced or careless "handymen." Have fun!

I agree 100% with George. I much prefer unmolested machines, even in less than perfect condition to machines that have been subjected to amateurish repairs or so-called restorations.
Congratulations. Enjoy your new acquisition.

Thanks for the comments. I think it looks rather unmolested. Here are some images of the case and the bedplate.

Nice machine. It looks like the Edison factory was using up some old parts. The reproducer carrier is from an earlier 4 Clip Model A (made up to 1901). Old TAE didn't waste anything!
