I bought a Columbia Eagle B.

Post by digger42071 »

I picked up a nice Eagle B to play Brown wax. Pretty neat machine. I’m impressed with the sound quality of the small floating reproducer. Here is a video of me playing a 2 minute Gold Molded on it. Enjoy. Oh is there a way to tell when these were made by their serial number?

If you post your Eagle's serial number I may be able to help.

According to the late Howard Hazelcorn:

"Columbia originally reserved the serial numbers 80,000 - 199,999 for this machine. When this block was filled, numbering continued at 400,000. At approximately 425,000 the patent plate reads 'BX' ."

Serial number on the tag. It matches the serial number on the frame.

Based upon your Eagle's serial number and its "New York & Paris" decal, I'd date it to late 1900/very early 1901.

After I buy the Triumph, I’m aiming at getting one of these. This machine seems to be a staple of collections. And the easiest way to get an 1890s era machine.
