Help! Random part ID needed

Post by johnston456 »

I recently inherited a Columbia E2 Grafonola that has been in storage approximately 35 years. To my surprise, it works so now I’m slowly trying to get it cleaned up and make sure all is in good order. When I removed the motor, there was a piece laying in the cabinet underneath that I can not figure out that it goes to. The motor works fine without it. Can anyone tell me what this piece might go to or if it is just something in the machine that doesn’t belong there.

Look a bit like a chime striker from a clock, but not a match to any I've seen.
It doesn't look like a gramophone motor part to me, but then I'm not familiar with US Columbia parts either.

It looks like it could be a belt tightener part (typically found on a cylinder machine). Unfortunately I don't think thats what it is if it came from an E2.

I think I figured it out. It’s part of the automatic stop mechanism. It’s not fitting correctly so it falls out as soon as you start a record.
