I don't think the account will be closed the way things stand at the moment due to account inactivity.
I haven't added anything to my account for over 10 yrs and it's still there, as are others who haven't posted for much longer, and the account wouldn't have been accessed at all since because the owner was actually murdered.

That said, I think if there's any content on any YouTube channels you would hate to see disappear, then you probably should make a copy of it for yourself anyway.
There are literally dozens of videos that I had on my favorites list that have disappeared for various reasons, that I wish I'd copied at the time, and it actually prompted me to make a couple DVDs of different music film clips in case they too vanished.

Unfortunately, like absolutely everything on the internet, there's no guarantee what's there is going to be there in 1 year, or 10 years time, so any information you come across you want should be printed out, and videos copied. Otherwise one day you'll go to view it again only to find it's disappeared into cyberspace.

I'll take this opportunity to say goodbye to Stephen Peppiatt and I will never mention him on this forum again.

I met Stephen in 2005 and thought he was a very gentle, funny man. I bought dozens of gramophones from him over the years. His knowledge of gramophones was impressive but his wanton messing about with them was annoying. "That soundbox does not belong to that gramophone, it won't come off so I cut off the tonearm and replaced it with the correct one.". "I cut off the legs off that cabinet and put them on that". He knew best.

He was always a bit mischievous, even malevolent towards people he thought he had "problems" with. His list of enemies grew steadily until, out of the blue, it also included me. It all came to a head when his parents, (he still lived with his folks) both died within months of each other. He obviously lost the plot and became totally unhinged and quite dangerous. I do feel sorry for him but mostly I feel concern for the damaged he did to the gramophone community in the UK and those individuals he hurt.

As for his YT videos, I never rated them, mostly poorly shot in his tiny wee room. After a few videos they all became the same. I never got into them.

Goodbye Stephen Peppiatt R.I.P

I posted a couple of clips on You Tube in 2007 and forgot about my account. The account has essentially been abandoned for 12 years but the clips are still there after nearly 13 years. This should reassure us the Colonel's videos shall remain. If anyone knows how to reclaim an account please let me know!

On a related historical note on You Tube postings: You Tube began in 2005. My 2007 You Tube clip was with regards to British Television and the last moments of the 405 line system. The BBC began the first regularly scheduled television service on 2 November 1936 and the 405 line system ran from 1936 to Jan 3 1985.

(It is interesting to note the US demonstrated the broadcast of the first experimental fully electronic television system on July 27, 1936 on 343 lines. The US switched to 441 lines in 1938 and finally to 525 in 1941. 525 is still broadcast today and is referred to as "Standard Definition")

Here is one of of the clips I posted: "The End of 405 line TV" on YouTube capturing my 1938 Baird model T-18 television as was broadcast thoughout the UK on January 3, 1985. The operating 1938 TV set received the off air 405 line signal from an antenna atop the BBC Lime Grove Studio and the camera recording this was a one point switched to by BBC Master Control so the TV received a picture of itself over the air. Then BBC shut down for the night as TV then did and that was the end!

Goodbye Stephen Peppiatt R.I.P
This very much sums up my own personal experience with Stephen, almost identically. He and I fell out after 8 years of contact solely down to the fact that he started telling lies about our mutual friend, the late Frank James. This was worsened by the fact that it started around the time Frank's wife died which was as cruel and untimely as it was grossly unkind and unjustified. l should have known better than to fall out with him though as it was obvious he had a mental problem and couldn't control his anger publicly with anyone he felt had wronged him. He could not handle it when l shut him out and started to decline his phone calls and refused to talk to him generally. He claimed I betrayed him. He subsequently started making up appalling stories and lies about me. This continued for 7 years unabated until he died. I feel his vengeful tactics arose because he needed to reach out to like minded people with this common but specialised interest as a result of his chronic isolation.

He did legitimately expose a few dealers with less than scrupulous methods and many people who complained about him (myself included) only had their selves to blame for letting him into their circles in the first place. He was a loose canon and many of us suspected it. With this said some of his videos contain interesting and rare recordings which it would be a great pity to lose. He was at times very funny and impressively knowledgable about an array of unrelated subjects. I miss his humour from a time before he became very sad and bitter.

Contrary to what some of the folk who are publicly dancing on his grave have said I do not agree that he should be buried and forgotten. For all his faults and menacing behaviour it should never be forgotten that he had mental health issues and was, after all, another human being. I’m as appalled by some of what I’ve read on the internet about him posthumously as I was by what he said about others when he was alive. The dead can’t speak up and two wrongs don’t make a right. No one deserves to die at 47. He had a difficult and sad life and never recovered from intense bullying he suffered in his youth.

I have known other people who live in a total fantasy world. They tell so many lies that they truly begin to believe their own stories and take on the persona of the person they falsely claim to be. The line between reality and fiction is blurred. Rarely do these people seek professional help or have proper diagnosis though. That’s quite sad.

Thank you, Stephen, for the occasional gramophone part and odd pieces of ephemera you sent to me free of charge from time to time. I wish I could have understood your scrolling handwriting within the accompanying letters!

Anyway, like Chunny, that’s all I’m going to say about him.

Goodbye Stephen.

Many of us will know someone who appears perfectly normal until they get behind the wheel of a car.
So it was with Stephen Peppiatt when he got behind a keyboard.
I met him twice socially and thought that we might become friends, but when I made the mistake of joining his so called gramophone forum I saw a very different side to him. After daring to defend the CLPGS from his cowardly and motiveless attacks I was banned from his forum, which I regarded as a badge of honour. He never forgave me for that.

I know nothing about the colonel's social life, only a few of his videos. I'll admit I enjoyed his videos and especially his charming English accent. Does anyone know what accent he spoke, other than English? I know it's not Cockney, but sounds educated. Maybe it's an Oxford accent?

His accent was more than likely influenced heavily by practicing Received Pronunciation.

Lot of times people enjoy practicing different accents. Received Pronunciation was at one point the form of speech taught to the British upper classes and with his interests I can see why he spoke like that. An affectation? Perhaps, but a harmless one.
