I must admit, I do find these later EMG's a little ugly, but I'd probably put up with it for the awesome sound...maybe ;)
I think if I had my pick of EMG's, I'd choose one of the early HMV 510 Lumiere pleated diaphagm convertions they did. I find the combination of upright cabinet, cabriole legs and that big "out there" horn more aesthetically pleasing than the top heavy look of the table models :D

I've rarely heard one of these but they're marvelous. I get the impression that even in their time it was more about sound than looks. The same situation held in the radio and High-Fidelity era when hobbyists were enraptured by boxes of industrial electronics linked together by cables- a True Believer would have no interest in a merely pretty cabinet.
