The image shown on the shipping crate label is the exact cut drawing found in early K&R ads (see attached). Some believe these types were the earliest versions offered by K&R. In my opinion, this label makes it clear that the earliest models offered by K&R were in fact the wood based types. Otherwise, one would expect to see the all metal cast version to not only be on this crate label but, also in period advertisements. As far as I know, there is no known image yet found showing this all metal type. There are at least two different types of the all metal cast type offered.
Even the patent drawings show the wood based type.
