Has anyone ever come across a tone arm like this ? (Assuming it is a tone arm ...) It is a strange six sided shape and can be rotated to point to either "Victor Columbia", "Pathé" or "Edison". I cannot really see what difference the different positions would make.... I am baffled by it, does anyone have an answer ?

It's a Fletcher's tonearm.
They're capable of playing both vertical and lateral cut records when complete, and I think they were one of the best out there.
The soundbox could be rotated to suit the type of record being played, and the weight at the base was moved to adjust the pressure of the stylus on the record.
The soundbox was also hexagonal, to match the tonearm.
