Can anyone provide me with pictures of the motor for a Colombia No 117. I just bought the wood cabinet less motor and crank. Thanks

I wonder if this may be an English-made machine & require a Garrard motor. This is later than the usual Columbias--it's made after 1925 and should have a Viva-Tonal tonearm on it. (It should sound absolutely lovely.)

There are a lot of Englishmen on the forum & they are familiar with these--I think yours might, just might, be from the UK.

Then again I could very likely be wrong.

Thank you I am just getting into this and the cabinet looked in great shape compared to others I have seen. I hope I can find a motor for it and enjoy.

It is an English Columbia and it has a plano-reflex pot metal tone arm and a Columbia nr 9 soundbox. A good machine with its bifurcated horn. The motor is Columbia-branded but (I believe) made by Garrard. With some luck you will be able to find the missing parts in the UK eBay. Try also Soundgen in this forum, he may have the parts. These are not rare machines.

It is the 117a which has the Plano-Reflex tonearm and No.9 soundbox, as do all models with the "a" suffix.
The 117 which is the subject of this thread has a single piece tonearm, a No.8 soundbox and a Garrard No.50 single spring motor.

The 117 was one of the new Viva-Tonal range introduced in 1926 and cost £6.10s.

Thanks for the correction, Roger, I have the 117a and did not notice the absence of the *a* in the above machine.
