Strange Edison phonograph governer WANTED
Missing a Edison home phonograph governer, the machine runs just now powerfully enough without the governer. Also does the model r reproducer stylus supposed to look like that? Help would be appreciated

Re: Strange Edison phonograph governer WANTED
The machine pictured is a Standard, and someone has installed 2 Victor governor weights. Three Edison governor weights should help the problem.
The stylus and stylus bar currently installed in the Model R Reproducer is the two-minute variety, which - as you suspected - is incorrect. A four-minute stylus bar and stylus will allow you to play four-minute cylinders on a machine with the proper gearing.
It's possible that whoever modified the Model R Reproducer did so because the Standard is a two-minute only machine. Without a picture of the upper works, we can't tell.

Re: Strange Edison phonograph governer WANTED
Hello thanks for your reply, the upper works of he machine has a 2/4minute gear selector and I tried an amberola cylinder on it, the reproducer needs a lot of restoration but the amberola cylinder was kind of working. Any ideas on how to straighten up that wire in the reproducer?

Re: Strange Edison phonograph governer WANTED
There are a few things happening:
1) The machine has its 2/4-minute attachment set in the 2-minute position.
2) An Amberol record (not "Amberola") will not play in the 2-minute position.
3) The reproducer pictured is a Model C, which is meant for 2-minute records - not Amberol records.
4) The Model C reproducer is not properly seated in the arm.

Maybe it is the photograph. But I could not see the little "doorknob" sapphire two minute stylus on either reproducer.

@phonogp
Thankyou for your help again,
2/1. I put it in the 2 minute position to play a normal cylinder as shown
3. the reproducer in it at the moment is a model c since I took the original out to play a normal cylinder
4. How do I seat it into the arm? It has a little hole at the top which fits in this ending (not sure how to explain it)
Regards

By loosening the thumbscrew at the 1:00 position of the arm, then gently repositioning the reproducer, the little pin at the 12:00 position will align with the notch and the entire reproducer should be able to be gently pushing down into a fully seated position.Thomas1899 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 3:25 pm

Governor Flyball was correct - there is currently no stylus in the latest pictures you posted.

That’s definitely somebody’s redneck fix. You gotta look out for those because in the days before proper replacements were done online people were doing all sorts of stuff like this. (Looking at you people who replaced orthophonic tonearm machines with pre-1925 tonearms!)
