VV-XVI; What are these buttons for?

Post by apruizii »

I found these wooden buttons on a 1918 VV-XVI Victrola I recently picked up. I thought they were used for covering the the two screw holes of the back panel but they seem to be too big and don't want to force them in. Are these original to the Victrola, and if so where do they go?

Thanks!

I am clueless regarding the need for those buttons. But I do know they look very nice in the small recesses at each end of your needle recesses. Do you have the metal needle cup with lid? I bet you could find one by placing an ad in the Trader section of our Forum. Do you need gold or nickel?

Jerry, yes the buttons were actually covering the recesses at the ends, and I do have the gold needle cup.

Maybe a prior owner wanted to cover the recess areas with something.

Thanks,

Those little plugs or buttons came, I believe, as part of the packing. But I've never heard a reasonable explanation either. A phono mystery...

I have seen VV XVIs with gold plated metal plugs covering those screw hole recesses. Perhaps wood was used as well?

I have purchased machines and the "buttons" were in the back of the machines, towards the top.

Those are the plugs that go into the holes above the back door. On the 16's, they vary in dimension quite a bit from version to version. I made a bunch of them recently and found that they fit only one of my 16's. I had to make a new batch for others.

Strartgroove, any chance of posting a picture of the holes and plugs above the back door? Also, what are those holes for? (I'm not a Victrola owner)
