You think your phonograph is in bad shape!

Post by Rick E »

Guy Pederson, an artist in Calistoga, California, creates unusual pieces, often from found objects. One path he takes is to encrust machines by placing them in hot springs to rust and to accumulate mineral deposits. Here is what he did to a a phonograph!

A write-up on the guy & his work.

I don't know about you but this is, to me, one of the reasons people see modern art as a way to launder money.

Terrible. Why not just dump excrement on anything and call it art.

It really makes me sad that this crap passes as art nowadays. How can anyone calls this art? It's just stupidity

"ARTIST": An artist is a person engaged in an activity related to creating art, practicing the arts, or demonstrating an art.

Calling this person an artist, is an insult to the hot springs that caused the encrustment to form... He has made nothing, created nothing and is taking credit for natural processes beyond his ability to "create". Hot springs crystallizations should be copyrighted by the owner of the spring...

I'm sure somebody will disagree with me, but throwing typewriters and violins into hot springs is not any more creative than the guy at the auto recycling place who crushes cars into cubes of metal. Maybe that guy could show us how to build houses and sculptures by welding those blocks together. Or maybe someone could paint an Edison Opera purple and stick a mannequin head out of the horn... now, that would be art.

How about cow pies dipped in epoxy and JB Welded into a miniature copy of the Eiffel Tower?
