Wood glue does it; I take a razor-blade & shave the belt at a shallow angle to look like this.

Pardon my non-slanty slant there. The angle is quite shallow.

I use carpenter's glue (wood glue, white glue) to stick the cut surfaces together & put the belt on with the shiny side out so the fuzzy side will grip the pulley.

I am honestly just learning everything about phonographs, but from what I see in the video I attached, the glued spot makes the belt harder in that location, and may slip and affect speed? I (well, my wife) found a spool of nylon thread... I, I mean we, I mean her, can sew it together...

I have seen a lot of posts by Wyatt M before. This looks very professional.

The only question - in either case - sewing or gluing - how much length do I leave extra, because my Standard has the tensioner pulley?

Follow Wyatt M's advice. Mr Markus is one of the best in the trade.

As for how much, they all had a tension pulley and the intention is to get it almost tight enough to run without that pulley.

I only have 1 cylinder to check play with unfortunately, so not sure if it is supposed to be like that at 1:17 or it is slowing down. Everything is smooth, lead screw is clean, it takes exactly a minute to run between two timing notches. So I'm not sure what would cause this if in fact it slows down in one spot.
