Edison diamond stylus, Not right.. I think

Post by sawblade54 »

Still a newbie on these phonographs. But this doesn't look right.
I finally got mechanical adjustments made but the sound is low and distorted.
As I look over the reproducer, the stylus looks to long. I looked up a standard diamond stylus on the internet and compared it to what I found installed amd posting photos
It almost looks like the guy before me glued in a steel needle made for the 78 Adapter which I also have
I think the reproducer is okay, I can rub my finger on the needle and hear it through the horn.
Where is the best sorse to buy a new diamond stylus?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Definitely the wrong stylus. Wyatt Markus should be able to help you (MicaMonster on the forum).

Those last two photos scared me. Yes, Wyatt's your man. I would highly recommend a Figure4 diaphragm as well. You won't be disappointed.

I would DEFINITELY not be using that until it comes back from Wyatt. It looks like a steel needle

...stuck on with super glue and broken off at the tip, at that. And that stylus bar doesn't look right, either. Someone did something very, very bad to that poor reproducer.

I shudder to think what that thing would do to a diamond disc groove.

Even worse than my Columbia BF, which had a bent pin inserted where the stylus should be...
