any idea of the value: Victor Oil, Grease, Needles & Tins

Post by Jonsheff »

I restored and sold a Victrola I got from someone a while back and it came with some original Victor oil in a wood cylinder case, some original Victor grease for electric motors, Victor needles in paper sealed packets (Duotone has been opened) and tins of original Victor Sample needles. I am getting ready to sell these either individually or as a lot but have no idea what the value is or where to start the price on eBay. I didn't find anything like the oil or grease that has sold so have no idea of the value, I think its rare since I haven't seen it before but really don't know.
I do know some people collect the needle tins, not sure if they are worth more since they have needles in them.
I thought before i list them to check with the expert collectors to get some input. I am not trying to sell them on this forum, just looking for advice on value.

I'd be careful with that grease tube, that's lead. I'd say between $10 and $20 for each, but I'm no expert. Maybe more for the grease tube cause of that box.

Go to Ebay and search for the item you want to sell and then check the sold listings check box. If the items that pop up as sold come close to the item you want to sell, you will have a ball park figure to work with. Good luck with your sale.

yes, I did a search on Ebay for victor phonograph oil and grease and came up with nothing under sold items that was like what I have, that's the reason for the original post on this forum.

Unfortunately, none of the items you posted are of much value given the condition. To collectors of these things, condition is very important. This, and the fact none are considered uncommon. Nice to just keep with a machine as novelty items.

Started the auction at $10 and it ended at $86 so it looks like there was some value in the lot after all

Nice! Well done. I don't think they're too common, never found any with any of the 15 machines I have. And now eBay will take $15...

Seems everything was as previously stated and worth $10-20 each.
$86 was the end price as a bulk lot, and considering what eBay takes, you'd have probably made more selling them separately here.

Sorry to disagree but here is another victor motor oil that just sold Oct 20 for $52 with shipping so a $10-$20 value may be low. I am sure i could have made more with individual sales but that would have been extra work and trips to the post office.
