If I remember correctly, so did the earlier HMV Chippendale and Sheridan cabinets, so it was probably fairly common on better pre WWI machines with casters which weren't necessarily designed to be placed against a wall or in a corner and never moved.

I have 2 circassian XVI's. Both are the "E" model and both have the rear doors that have pulls and open. Not sure if this is helpful at all but thought I would add it to the discussion.
