I started on the doors. Scraped the old finish off. Had to re-glue veneer on the edges and the center inserts on all four doors. No major damage just a nick here and there. Stained and lacquered and wool finish. The hardware took a little bit to clean up. 8 hinges, 48 screws and 3 knobs (missing 1). Everything when back together ok, the only problem was the right storage door. It has a slight bow to it and took a little shimming of the hinges to get it to close. I didn't think there was much I could do to straighten it.

The wooden grill was surprisingly in good shape. I still used wool on it and gave it a couple coats of lacquer. I tried to find some grill cloth the would be close to the original and JoAnn's with no luck. I used some of the cream colored cloth I put on the Brunswick for now. It will be easy to change if I find something closer in the future because of the no glue wood insert strips that the grill uses.

What is left to do on the cabinet is the lid re-veneering and finish. I will be able to keep the inside of the lid as is as it is in very good shape as far as the finish. The back panel will need to be made as they are very far gone.

Suffering from refinishing fatigue I can now break that up a little bit by working on the motor and tonearm. Don't need the lid and back panels to get it playing.

Well I am on to the motor rebuild. I will let the cabinet lacquer age for about a month then I will do a final cut and polish to remove any brush stokes from the finish.

Well thanks Inigo, this is my pleasure in my old age to enter act as my social life has been waning as I grow old. The internet and forums keep me from going senile and keeps my mind sharper to at lease know who I am. Hopefully I will be able to enter act as my life goes forward.

I broke down the motor and cleaned all the parts. Initially I see 3 main problems. 1). 2 broken governor springs and 2 missing weights.

2). sheared set screw of the drive spring drum.

3). I been working with springs for 15 years and have never seen this before. Someone cold riveted one of the main springs back together about 2 or 3 feet at the inner end. It had to be noisy when turning.

Everything else looks to be ok.

I am working on replacements.
