Question about 8-35 albums

Post by Ben the phono man »

Hello!
I recently picked up a VE-8-35x in great shape. The only thing about it is that it needs both bottom hinges for the tone chamber doors and three 10'' albums. I was wondering about the numbering on the albums, I have 1,2, and 4 for 10'' (I am assuming that it counts up to six.) I am not sure about the 12'' set, do they also count up to 6 starting with one? or do they continue from six? Maybe multiple different versions? I have three "v" albums, a viii and two others I cannot read. Can anyone shed light on this? I wouldn't mind seeing pictures of other member's 8-35s as well

I have included a video of it playing

Thanks, Ben

I'm pretty sure the 12 in albums should continue to count up to 12 most pictures I've seen of them appear to have the albums counting up to 12 as well as the reproduction spines.
In addition my 9-18 albums continue to count up to 8 on the 4 12 in albums

Thanks Bronson. I also assumed that when these were new, you could paste on either the artists name or "victor library"

Appreciate the response, Ben

This is exactly what I needed, thanks electrolaman! Do they commonly discolor over time and turn to a sort of murky version of what they used to be? And also, many of mine have different spine labels, for example, I have one that says "Kane" and "Rodgers" (Helen Kane and Jimmy Rodgers respectively) did they make ones for non-operatic and classical artists? I also have a few 12 inch albums with the number 5 on them. Maybe stickers were available from victor for their popular series artists to do this?

Thanks, Ben

I think its likely that the 12 in albums marked 5 were from machines that had 4 10 in albums. Both the 9-16 and the 9-18 had 4 10 in albums.

Here is another image example of mine that you will see matches what I sent earlier as the list. I researched these albums as common sets in various models in many collections.
