At an estate sale yesterday.

Post by ColoradoPhonograf »

I got a tip from a a fellow collector who lives 200 miles from us. He had to work long hours at work all weekend and couldn't make it there. My wife and I jumped in the car and drove through the night. We arrived at the estate sale very early and waited at the front door. It was cold and we shivered, but after many hours we found ourselves first and second in line-up. Time passes slowly in the pre dawn and being cold.

Little by little others line up to attend. My wife had her list in hand for the first floor. I had my lists in order for the second floor, we tagged teamed it doing messaging all the way. Quick thinking and perseverance got us to this point. Then the helpful team from the estate sales team helped us nail down the items highest on our list to say "SOLD". It was an old collector's home who had clocks, phonographs, and guns. .At 10:00a.m. when it started there were literally 150 people waiting to get in. We bought quite a few items and enjoyed the process of wading through the crowd. We missed a few things of being overpriced the first day......but came home smiling for our efforts. 33 hours later of being without sleep, I thought I'd post some pics. Sometimes you just gotta tough it out. I'm happy with my purchases. Happy collecting, you never know what you may find next weekend !

Well done for making the effort, which was clearly worth it. You and your wife make a good team.
Too many lazy people these days assume that everything is available at a click of the mouse.

In the UK, house contents sales such as this are now a thing of the past. All too often when they were advertised in the local press, the burglars got there first. Now the auctioneers clear the property and remove the contents to their own premises.

I remember attending a house contents sale decades ago, and watching two old ladies bid a lawnmower to more than it cost new.
Each was determined to have it and neither wanted to back down. I miss that kind of entertainment.

The thrill of the chase is such a large part of the fun in anything! This is a perfect example. Great job! :)

I love that horn with the pansies and the cylinder cabinet. That small Nickel horn was a great score. You will get to enjoy your treasures long after the night of adventure fades. Now you just need a Victor 6 to go with the back bracket and tonearm.

Very nice. Congrats!!! I recently went to an estate sale of a well known car collector. I heard he had a music box and hoped it was in the sale. I was there early and was one of the first group let in. I came home with this near mint 12 tune cylinder music box with bells. It has no broken teeth and plays great. Even the tune card is in great shape.
