Conversion of Radio Music Master Horn to Edison Cygnet

Post by danohallaron »

Started out on Yankee Trader but I'm really looking more for advice, so we'll put it to the discussion board.

I bought this MM Radio horn to convert to a non-opera Cygnet. For anyone who has done this or is familiar, are conversion rings available anymore to adapt to a Cygnet elbow? Any specific advice you might have? I am also looking for the swivel hanger setup, if anyone knows of any. Eduaro in Peru sells those and that may be the answer for the hanger, but apparently shipping takes a long time. I've had no luck finding a ring to this point. Need a time machine, apparently, because they appear to be available in more than one dead link from 20 years ago.

I should be able to just touch up this horn and use it, as it seems to be in good shape.

The guy from Peru should also have the mounting rings.

Do you know if it is the same mounting ring as the original or is it some sort of adaptation ring? I have read that the small end of the bell is 1/16" difference from the original Edison MM.

Thanks. I can find where they used to be sold in auction history pages and web searches, but nothing current. Eduardo, in Peru sells repro rings, but they will probably not fit.

You need a conversion ring which I used to get from Don gfell. Not sure where he got them from there is a size difference. I would sell it as a radio speaker

Why make a kludge, when real ones are available?

To put it in a different way, what would we think about one of our radio brethren dismantling an original Opera horn from its elbow to make up a radio horn?

Please send me that link. I have found that originals are in collections and typically unavailable for purchase. Actually, I cannot find even one for sale at this time.

That source, or somebody who has one laying around, is what I am looking for.
