Edison Model B Reproducer question

Post by mstewart1903 »

I have an Edison reproducer that I bought as a "very old Model B." My problem is that it doesn't have a notch cut in it. So, I can't mount it into the carriage arm.
Is this actually a "B"? Was it made for a carriage arm without a notch? What am I missing? Thank you.

Hi- The earliest B's did not have a locating notch. The early carriages had an adjusting screw that used the "wing" on the reproducer to fine tune it's position (I assume yours has the "wing-arm"?) .. The notch and pin came later. Personally, I wouldn't cut the notch in the reproducer. It's original the way it is-- I'm sure there are forum members who would like to have the early, unmolested reproducer and perhaps would trade a notched B for yours.
