May 5, 1914: Eugene Kieffer was granted U.S. Design Patent No.45,719 for “Cabinet for Talking Machines.” This would become the cabinet for the Victor/Victrola XXV.

May 5, 1977: Died: Sam Lanin, dance band director and prolific recording artist.
