Other than hundreds of old, corroded discarded needles, the only things I've found inside a phonograph were a couple of sheets of newspaper from the Washington Post dated 1923, a couple of Wheat cents, and a Mercury dime.

In the late nineties I bought my Aeolian Vocalion upright, a nice period, still unidentified, model. A serendipity story on itself...
When opening the machine for examination and cleaning, etc, I found two sapphire ball needles for use with vertical records. It was nice, for the tonearm in this machine is of the revolver type, and it's the only machine with which I can play Pathé records.
I will open a new thread on this machine, because I'm in bad need of a replacement tonearm, and also to find out which model it is...

On the bright side, we don’t have to pay 1979 prices.

I went to look at a phonograph in Baltimore about ten years ago. It was only a Victrola X and I didn't have much interest in it. It was stuffed full of records so I started to pull them out to see if there was anything special. Behind the records there was a stack of bills, about $4000. It would have been so easy to shove the records back in and buy the phonograph. I asked if that came with the phonograph. He said he had forgotten it was in there. Well, he made $4000 and I didn't even buy the phonograph!

LOL... That Newspaper clipping from 1979 says $450-$550.

Today, For a clean Amberola 50 (which is what is pictured) with good finish and no Veneer loss...That's pretty much the price today in 2019.. Not much has changed...

Depending on various conditions of Amberola 30's and Amberola 50's...Today prices are all over the place...though they are on the lower side lately the past couple years..

My most recent purchase was of a 1915 Victrola IX sans motor. I was only interested because it had an extra tone arm that was a Victor Orthophonic type. Turns out, it had a brass orthophonic reproducer inside! I also found these strange items in the same cabinet.
