Here is a short video showing the 1927 VE-9-55 E Radiola 28 is action.
A small AM radio transmitter is able to marry the Internet with the high tech of 1927.
The source recording is from 1931 and is located in the cloud at www.i78s.org, from there it travels through multiple routers and links to my home router and via WiFi to my iPad. Here is passes via Bluetooth to the MicroMitter AM broadcast device pictured on top. From there it is broadcast to the radio antenna inside the 9-55 cabinet. Then, thanks to eleven century-old vacuum tubes and a small paper cone speaker, the sound emerges from the grille. It consumes about 200 watts of electricity in the process. All this for what the iPad can do all by itself although certainly less elegantly!
Here is a link to a 4 minute demonstration.
The radio panel has a switch to change between radio and record reproduction. It can automatically change twelve records to provide up to an hour’s entertainment. The convenience and deluxe nature of Victor’s top model only cost $1550 in 1927, the equivalent of about $24,000 today.
