Brunswick model 210 finish options

Post by antique1973 »

Does anyone know if this model came in walnut as a finish option? This
looks like walnut but it might be brown mahogany, hard to tell. This reproducer looks
odd too, shouldn't it have an Ultona?

It doesn't exactly strike me as a walnut finish or wood but the photos are not too clear. It may just be a type of brown like many machines were produced in. The reproducer is brunswick and I think the ads refer to it as Ultona but If I recall right its a cheaper latter version?

Thanks Larry. I am going to see it this weekend. It has a non working motor so I
figure I can practice working on the springs if I end up buying it. My second machine ever was a
117. I was clueless back then so I sprayed WD40 on the barrels thinking it would help.

Its not mahogany since the grain is irregular. Some other wood with a dark stain.
The tonearm is in great shape with a freely swiveling reproducer. The volume control
knob is missing. Found out that one of the springs is broken in two places so I have
one on order. The cabinet has some blemishes but the grille is "mint" surprisingly.
The motor is missing as it is sitting in my shed at the moment.

Pretty sure it's walnut.
The only reason I think so is because the other day I came across this 1930 clearance ad for my Madrid.

And here's a couple pictures of the Madrids wood grain. The first pic is of the top, and the second is of the doors. The decorative panels are obviously in "figured walnut", but I assume the rest is also walnut, but just a different cut of veneer, probably from the straight sections of the trunk.
I'd always wondered what veneer was used for the Madrid, so I was pleased to finally know (along with the original price/s here in Oz)

Not sure if I should ask in this section, but I'd be interested in your source for springs. My Credenza thumps a little as it plays, so I know there's "work" ahead. My "collection" consists of the Credenza, a VTLA, XIV, XVI, a pair of Xs, a Columbia "lowboy", & a Brunswick 106 portable. I'd like to know a good source for springs, for a future "time of need":)

A thumping spring does not need to be replaced. Just clean it and regrease it.

New Springs can be bought from Ron Sitko. Do a Google search for him.

Easier yet, just call him: 518-371-8549 between 7 and 10 PM EST. He doesn't have email, his prices are the best around and he's a great guy to deal with.

Thanks for the info Shane. Apparently Brunswick used a darker stain for their walnut than Victor.

I got my spring from George Vollema but Ron is another source as mentioned. Thumping is just bad grease
and requires cleaning and re-greasing.
