Free dictaphones for collection in UK

Post by GarethDover »

We have 5 x vintage dictaphones available for collection in the UK. We were left them by my mother-in-law and would like them to go to a good home/collector.

I have attached photos

Buyer collects and they are in Dover, Kent, UK.

Too bad you weren't in the US. I would love to bring these into my school to put in a corner of the music room just to show kids and talk about how far we've come with technology. Perhaps there's someone near you who may feel the same?

Hopefully, we’d hate to see them be scrapped after surviving for so long.

I'd save them if I weren't way up north, those shavers are useful!

Kind of sad that these are not popular enough that people would make a dash down to Dover to grab them. (even if not Edison!)

How odd that these should turn up now. Not something I would normally buy.
I've just got back from holiday in the gold rush city of Bendigo. An hour NW of Melbourne. Gold was discovered here in 1850 and the wealth filled the fine street of the city. Great place to find gramophone, I thought. Sure enough, I saw loads of gramophones in antiques shops and arcades. Nothing of interest. Then I saw this trio tucked away in a corner. AU$300 about £150.
I've just completed cleaning up the secretary unit with it's headphones and hydraulic foot switches. It works really well. It's beautifully built and great fun to play with.
Someone go save these in Dover. Get a courier to blanket wrap them?.

So have a go and sell them on Ebay for £10 each you may get a surprise

Just to sweeten the (free) deal, if anyone is thinking of visiting Dover to pick these up, I have a similar set of Ediphones they can take away too - and I'm just outside Dover!

Or maybe as soundgen says, I'll float them on eBay at some point...

Good news! Someone locally has decided to take them in, so they are saved from being thrown away. Thanks for all of the helpful advice and suggestions.

That's good Gareth! I'd be happy for them to get in touch if they wanted any help or advice (not that I can give much, specific to these machines), as I'm local - I can be contacted on here or via my website.
