Re: WANTED: DECCA "88" portable 1927
Don't! That makes me feel quite sick. I've bought 4 machines from this seller already recently but although I very regularly scan Ebay far more than it is healthy for any person to do, this appeared in that tiny, narrow window between two scans I did on Sunday. It was a Buy It Now and someone spotted it and snapped it up quickly. I don't blame them. So would I have done at that price! If only it had been an auction, I might have had a chance with it.
Nevermind.
Nevermind.

Question, Steve, is that a straight-bore tonearm, or is it so gradually tapered, you barely notice it? Seems to me, a gradual taper, such as the HMV 101 tonearm, would have been the one to go with, considering the trouble Decca took to lengthen the tone chamber.

Re: WANTED: DECCA "88" portable 1927
I don't know in all honesty as I've never seen one in person! They sound very good though judging from a few videos I've seen but the 88 was the top of the range model at that time. I have the top models from the other periods of Decca acoustic portable gramophones but this one evades me.OrthoFan wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 6:04 pm Question, Steve, is that a straight-bore tonearm, or is it so gradually tapered, you barely notice it? Let me know if you still want one as I might be persuaded to part with mine.
