Sorry about the double category posting, but I thought our mates across the puddle might miss it in the "Yankee" section.

You were right to duplicate the post here. The Gilt No.16 was fitted to the earliest HMV102 De Luxe in red leather.

Thanks for that info. It seems a quite scarce example, but I am not enough of an egg spurt on HMV portables to say with certainty. Hope someone can use it. I would seriously consider a partial trade on a top condition nickel 5a or 5b.epigramophone wrote: ↑Thu Mar 31, 2022 4:09 am You were right to duplicate the post here. Re: FOR SALE: HMV Gilt No 16 soundbox, $250 USD
The gilt No.16 soundbox is scarce because the Red Leather De Luxe HMV102 was the only machine to which it was fitted as original equipment, and it was soon replaced by the No.5a. The De Luxe 102 is much rarer than the De Luxe 101. Launched in the teeth of the Depression (1931) it proved to be too expensive and was withdrawn in about 1934.

Interesting, thanks. Seems I may be better off to attempt to find a Deluxe that needs a sound box. Not a bad idea as I keep thinking I should collect some various HMV 102s anyways as I find the red Deluxe, green, and light blue examples quite pleasant. I am afraid of this rabbit hole, though. Very afraid.epigramophone wrote: ↑Fri Apr 01, 2022 4:37 am The gilt No.16 soundbox is scarce because the Red Leather De Luxe HMV102 was the only machine to which it was fitted as original equipment, and it was soon replaced by the No.5a. Potentially interested if you still have - and I have a good condition 5a - but $250 is way out of my league.
By the time I’ve paid shipping and customs it’d be mad money.

Already found an excellent 5B, sorry.
I can include shipping in the price. If you want, PM me a reasonable offer. Thanks.
