What's this?

I don't recognise this machine. which has an unusually wide and shallow case. It is clearly of some age. Any suggestions?

Hmm some of these things were made from old table top machine cabinets or lids in this case it looks like cheap ply and off the shelf moldings and a routed edge on the top board.
Note the vertical grain on the short would not have been my choice of direction aesthetically.
I blame " My fair lady" I was asked by a local professional touring production company to help with props and refused when they wanted to graft a horn to a nice table top machine using a jig saw to cut hole in the lid, also 1990s themed pubs where the reduced box height might have been to fit it on a display shelf.
No handle no winding hole and no picture of that side, possibly no motor....
