Antique Record Price Guide
I have acquired a couple of very old 78 record boxes with handles on the top. Both boxes contain some very old 78 records. Many are one sided Victor records. Is there a web site I can use to research the value of the records so I can sell them? I suppose the boxes alone are worth something, but I can't find any listed on ebay that are very old.

Post up some pics of what you have. Anything with "Rag" in the title may be worth something. Depends on record size and label too. Red label Monarch and Deluxe labels are good ones, as are "pre- dog" labels.

Re: Antique Record Price Guide
In my experience, price guides are really worthless for most records. Like anything it is based upon what buyers are willing to pay. Very few records can command large sums. Most are in the 2.00 or less bracket.

Re: Antique Record Price Guide
You can check the "sold" listings on eBay to get some idea of what something might be worth. Les Docks also has a book called the American Premium Record Guide, but it focuses on jazz, blues, country, R&B, and rock, no classical or pop (which are rarely of value anyway).audiophile102 wrote:I have acquired a couple of very old 78 record boxes with handles on the top. The general rule I have is that an unpicked group of 50-100 or so records probably has 1 or 2 desirable records, but the other 98% will be hard to even give away. Learning which are the 1 or 2 records that are "worth money" is not an overnight task.

Re: Antique Record Price Guide
Thanks to all for your replies. I intend to give the records away to a friend. The only one I found in the Ebay sold listings is Arthur Prior's Band. Just in case you are curious, here is a list of the 10" records all of which are classical music. The old record boxes are really great, but I'm giving them away with the records

Re: Antique Record Price Guide
I really don't get the point of this thread: first it is said that a batch of record will go on sale, later that it is going to be given to a friend. So?
However, at least to my eyes, the most interesting title in your list is nr. 27, as Titta Ruffo was an outstanding baritone, possibly "the Caruso of baritones". With this I mean that, should the record be put at auction on eBay with a $1 starting price, it will probably sell in the 10 days term.

Re: Antique Record Price Guide
I'm curious about this one:
15. Wizard Of Oz Selection Arthur Pryor's Band V-2772
(Recorded in 1904 -- http://adp.library.ucsb.edu/index.php/o ... ictor_2772 )
I'm wondering if this is the 1902 musical version of the Wizard of Oz --

Is a composer's name listed on the label?

Re: Antique Record Price Guide
The record label doesn't show an author, just; "Wizard of Oz Selection". To answer Mario, I opened this thread in order to find out if there was a source available to help me determine the value of the records. I found out that the answer is, not much. I was hoping to sell the records, but since there doesn't seem to be a market for them, I decided to give them away. Check out the links provided by Victrolacollector above and read the two interesting articles on the subject.OrthoFan wrote:I'm curious about this one:
